There are two ways to complete a residential driveway. Older homes tend to have a concrete driveway, which can pose some problems down the road. Newer homes and driveways that are being repaved tend to have an asphalt driveway. While some may think that there is nothing wrong with using concrete, they fail to realize the benefits that can come by having an asphalt driveway.
So why should you finish your asphalt driveway with asphalt instead of concrete?
- Durability- An asphalt driveway is known to be more durable than a traditional concrete driveway. A concrete driveway is known to flake and crack if exposed to extremely low temperatures or stress. If the concrete wasn’t mixed or poured properly during installation, the concrete could be even more vulnerable to flaking and cracking. Asphalt is a more flexible material and isn’t prone to the cracks and flakes of concrete.
- Usability- When installed in the proper temperature, an asphalt driveway can be installed and in use within a week’s time. Concrete takes time to mix, install, and then set completely before use. The decrease in time tends to also make an asphalt driveway less expensive when compared to a concrete driveway
- Maintenance- A concrete driveway can cost homeowners a good amount of money over the years because of maintenance. Changing weather can cause the concrete to crack while salt from winter snow can cause potholes to form. With an asphalt driveway, maintenance costs are lowered because the repairs happen less often and don’t require the same amount of work .
